Předmět je koncipován jako teoretický základ pro vytvoření hodnotového systému v ošetřovatelství. Objasňuje základní pojmy vztahující se k holistickému pojetí člověka, rodiny a společnosti.

Cílem předmětu je uvést do problematiky filozofie a jejího vztahu k vědě, vědění, hodnocení a jednání. Formováním charakterových vlastností přispět ke svobodě myšlení a projevu.
