- Course objectives
- This module, Language Skills in Medicine, is concentrated on the particular language skills such as speaking, reading, listening and writing. The purpose if this modul is to improve the ability to speak with patients and their relatives, with medical colleagues and paramedical staff. It is intended to develop both their speed and their accuracy in reading medical articles.
- Learning outcomes
- - to improve particular langauage skills – speaking, reading, listening, and writing,
- to give the practice in asking questions, instructing and explaining,
- to improve the ability to follow spoken English more easily and accurately,
- to develop the skills needed to understand a range of medical texts,
- to cope with reading of all kinds from documents to journal articles,
- to practise listening to an English speakers . patients, doctors, nurses speakers at medical conferences,
- to improve the ability to present written medical information in English,

- Introduction:
The module ”Body Systems” deals with anatomy and physiology of the various systems. Students learn how to take information from both written and oral texts and from visually presented material such as tables and diagrams. The lessons are based on material which should be familiar to students from their nursing studies, including various topics from anatomy and physiology.

- to answer the questions according to the text,
- to revise and extend their knowledge from English and other special subjects (anatomy, physiology),
- to use various kinds of dictionaries (monolingual, bilingual), to know basic terminology to discuss anatomic structures and locations,

- to explain the basic functons of each system.
